Theatre 121 announces auditions for ELF, the musical. Director Roger Zawacki, Musical Director Alayna DeVar, and Choreographer Bridget Kuehnert will be casting 12 men, 11 women, and 5 children.
Auditions will be on Monday, August 30 and Tuesday, August 31 from 6:30 to 9:30. You need to sign up for an audition slot by clicking the button above.
Auditions will be at the Woodstock Opera House. Use the side door on Dean Street.
Prepare an upbeat vocal selection of 2 minutes or less that shows off your vocal range. Auditionees will also learn a short dance and be asked to read a very short scene from the show. Callback auditions, if needed, will be held on Thursday, September 2 at 7:00pm at the Opera House. At auditions, you will fill out a Theatre 121 Audition Information Form. Please bring a list of your conflicts. Preference will be given to actors with the fewest conflicts. Also please note that Covid-19 Vaccines may play a role in the casting of this show. Characters that we will need to cast. (Note that all ages are stage ages, not the actor’s age.) MEN BUDDY, the Elf Raised by Santa at the North Pole, but is a human. Has a child-like curiosity. 25 – 35 Vocal range: Ab2 to C5 WALTER HOBBS Buddy’s workaholic father. Selfish, tense, and generally angry at life. 55 – 65 Vocal range: A2 to G4 SANTA CLAUS Loves his job and loves Christmastime, but also likes to watch the football game 50 – 80 Vocal range: A2 to E4 MACY’S STORE MANAGER Good friendly guy just trying to do his job. 35 – 45 Vocal range: B2 to F#4 MR. GREENWAY Walter’s boss. A tyrannical workaholic who cares nothing about the people who work for him. 50 – 65 CHADWICK One of Walter’s right hand men who is desperate to keep his job. 40 – 50 MATTHEWS Another of Walter’s right hand men desperate to keep his job. 30 – 45 Men in the Ensemble will play Santa’s Elves, Macy’s employees, New Yorkers, Security Guards, Fake Santas, etc. Several ensemble members will have lines.
WOMEN JOVIE Works at Macy’s and has a cynical outlook on life. She is caught off guard by Buddy’s big heart. 25 – 30 Vocal range: G3 to D5 EMILY HOBBS Walter’s wife who wishes he would spend more time with the family. 40 – 50 Vocal range: F3 to Eb5 DEB Walter’s under-appreciated secretary. Takes an instant liking to Buddy. 25 – 50 Vocal range: D4 to Eb5 Other female parts that members of the ensemble will play: Mrs. Claus, Tiara Elf, Saleswoman, Mother, Sarah, Charlotte – TV Reporter, Elves, Macy’s employees, New Yorkers
CHILDREN MICHAEL HOBBS Buddy’s half brother who is excited to have a new friend and brother 12 – 15 Vocal range: F3 to G5 Two boys and two girls in the ensemble 10 – 13 All children will need to be good singers.
The first rehearsal will be on Tuesday, September 7 at 7pm at the Woodstock Opera House. Rehearsals will generally be on Sundays at 6pm, and Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 7pm. Actors will only be called when their character is needed. Tech week is November 14 – 18. Performances of ELF will be on November 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, and December 3, 4, 5. Evening performances will be at 8pm and matinees will be on Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm There is one Sunday performance on November 28 that will be at 4pm after the Woodstock Christmas Parade. This could be the most fun you’ve had in two years!
